                                       Reflexive Pronouns                                          

(myself,yourself,himself,herself,itself, ourselves,yourselves,themselves)

Bagaimanakah kamu mengatakan sendiri /tanpa dibantu orang lain /sendirian /melakukan sesuatu pada diri sendiri  dalam bahasa Inggris? Berikut ini beberapa contoh ungkapan  yang biasanya kamu dengar dalam pergaulan sehari-hari.

1. Agar tampak rapi penampilanya setiap pagi sehabis mandi ,Minanti selalu melihat dirinya (sendiri) di cermin.
2. Apakah kamu tinggal sendirian? Orang tuamu dimana?
3. Saya kemari sendirian. (Tidak ada yang menemani).
4. Alice sendiri yang menulis surat. (bukan kakaknya )
5. Rina membeli mobil sendiri ( tidak dibelikan orangtuanya) karena dia sudah bisa mencari uang.
6. Selly membeli buku untuk dia sendiri.
7. Saya sendiri yang menyiapkan makanan.

KAPAN MENGGUNAKAN  Self- PRONOUNS?

1.   BILA SESEORANG MELAKUKAN SESUATU SENDIRI (tanpa bantuan orang lain).

Example:

1. Mrs. Betrix said to the students  : “Please turn over page five and do the exercise yourselves “     (self- pronoun diletakkan sesudah kata kerja)
2. Astri, you must do the washing- up yourself now! No one is allowed to help you!
3.  On my way to school, my bike was broken. Nobody helped me. so I fixed it myself.
4. No one can help her solve the problem. You should ask her to solve it herself.

2.      Self-Pronouns  YANG MENUNJUKKAN BAHWA  SESUATU DILAKUKAN PADA DIRI SENDIRI.

Examples:

1.  Mother cut herself in the kitchen.       (Ibu terluka di dapur)
2. She can look after herself.        ( Dia dapat menjaga dirinya)
3. Minanti looks at herself in the mirror.      (Minanti melihat dirinya sendiri    di   cermin)
4. We blame ourselves for that accident.  ( Kita menyalahkan diri sendiri dalam  kecelakaan itu)
5. Don`t hurt yourself!    (Jangan sakiti dirimu sendiri)
6. Be yourself!      (Berlakulah sewajarnya saja!
7. Garry, come with me, please! Make yourself at home.    (anggaplah rumah  sendiri!)
8.  Watch yourself!   (berhati-hatilah!)
9. You may have some more sugar. Just help yourself!    ( ambil sendiri!)
10. I like our school cafeteria. We can serve ourselves there.
11. They whispered among themselves.    (mereka berbisik-bisik diantara mereka  sendiri)
12. Force yourselves to finish the work.   (Paksa dirimu untuk menyelesaikan  pekerjaan itu!)

3.      Self-Pronouns UNTUK EMPHASIZING, MENEKANKAN YANG DIKATAKAN.                                       To emphasize means to concentrate or focus attention on something or to make something important.

1.  Sonny    bought    a magazine   himself
2. Sonny    bought    himself   a  tie
3. Sonny    bought    a tie   for  himself
4. I  myself  do not trust him.  (Saya sendiri tidak mempercayainya)
5. She told me  herself, so it must be true. (she herself said so). (dia sendiri yang   cerita, jadi pastilah  ceritanya benar)
6. Only they, themselves,  know the truth. (Hanya mereka sendirilah yang tahu  kebenaranya)

Pada kalimat “ Sonny bought a magazine  himself”, pembicara mau menekankan  bahwa SUBJECT (Sonny ) dan bukan orang lain yang membeli  majalah.

Pola berikut ini lebih umum dipakai  dalam bahasa tulis

SUBJECT      -SELF         VERB           OBJECT

I                    myself         do not trust    him

Only they      themselves   know            the truth

4.      Self-Pronouns yang mengandung arti SENDIRIAN (tak ada yang menemani)

1.  I`m going there  by myself. (saya mau pergi kesana  sendirian)
2.  He did it all   by himself. (Ia mengerjakanya seorang diri saja)
3.  No one helps her to finish that assignment. So she  works    by herself
4. Berta doesn`t like to sit with me. Therefore she sits    by herself.

By myself ,by yourself, by himself by herself by itself, by ourselves by  yourselves by themselves berarti “alone” (sendirian)

SUBJECT      VERB          BY…SELF

I                    like to go      by myself .  (I  like to go  alone )        

Mira              is going        by herself.   (Mira  is going  alone)

Do you          live               by yourself? (Do you  live  alone?)
