Ketika kamu bercakap-cakap dengan orang, kamu kadang-kadang memberikan pernyataan untuk  meminta orang tersebut  menyetujui apa yang kamu katakan/ atau untuk konfirmasi. Dalam bahasa Indonesia diartikan “bukan ?”,   ” ya, to?”. Misalnya terdapat dalam ungkapan-ungkapan  berikut:

 

-          Hari ini hari rabu,bukan?  (It`s Wednesday,isn`t it? )

-          Kamu paham , bukan?   (You understand , don`t you ?)

-          Adinda datang, bukan?  ( Adinda come, don`t she?)

-          Cindy tidak bisa berbicara bahasa Inggris, bukan? (Cindy can`t speak English ,can she?)

-          Ada 3 orang asing disini tadi malam, bukan? (There were three strangers here last night, weren`t there?

 

Kata “bukan?” yang diletakkan diakhir suatu kalimat pernyataan, seperti pada contoh  kalimat-kalimat diatas  disebut Question Tag. Perhatikanlah bahwa ungkapan Question Tag akan berubah sesuai dengan pernyataannya.

 

KAPAN QUESTION TAG DIGUNAKAN?

Question Tag  digunakan :

 

-          Untuk bertanya. Diucapkan dengan intonasi naik.

Contoh:

You are Indri, aren`t you?

They don`t know anything, do they?

 

-          Untuk menegaskan suatu pernyataan / atau meminta persetujuan pada orang yang kamu ajak bicara. Diucapkan dengan intonasi menurun karena sebenarnya bukanlah kalimat Tanya.

Contoh:

Cyntia knows, doesn`t she?

 

PEDOMAN PENGGUNAAN.

 

BILA PERNYATAANYA POSITIP,MAKA QUESTION TAG NYA NEGATIP.

 

Contoh

It is a nice day, isn`t it?

(+)               ,   (-)

 

You understand ,  don`t you ?

(  + )         ,        (  -)

 

 

BILA PERNYATAANYA NEGATIP,MAKA QUESTION TAG NYA POSITIF.

 

Contoh:

 

Cindy can`t speak English ,can she?

                       (  - )                         ,  (+ )

 

Shelly didn`t get lost, did she?

(-)                 , (+)

 

 

DALAM QUESTION TAG, NAMA DIRI/ BENDA/ dsb, HARUS DIUBAH MENJADI KATA GANTI PRONOUN   he, she, it, they, we, I, you, there. JADI  HANYA KATA-KATA ITULAH YANG DIPAKAI DALAM TAGNYA.

 

Contoh:

Ismi and Yuda will get married, won`t they?

Desy had lunch in the cafeteria,didn`t she?

 

DO….?/ DOES….?  DON`T…? DOESN`T…? DIGUNAKAN JIKA KATA KERJA PERTAMA DALAM KALIMAT PERNYATAAN DALAM BENTUK SIMPLE PRESENT

Contoh:

Mrs. Ida explains the lesson well, doesn`t she?

Mrs. Ida doesn`t explain the lesson well, does she?

 

DID….?/ DIDN`T….?  DIGUNAKAN JIKA KATA KERJA PERTAMA DALAM KALIMAT PERNYATAAN DALAM BENTUK SIMPLE PAST

Contoh:

 

You came there, didn’t you?

They didn`t know the answer, did they?

 

Bila dalam kalimat pernyataan digunakan kata-kata  never, seldom, rarely, hardly ever, no, no one, few, little ,maka  Tagnya  berbentuk Positif.

Contoh:

You hardly ever call her, do you?

She never gets up before five, does she?

They`ve got no money, have they?

 

Bila kalimat pernyataan subjectnya everyone, everybody,everything,no one, nobody, anybody, anyone ,maka Tagnya menggunakan they.

Contoh:

Everything is all right, aren`t they?

Everybody comes, don`t they?

Kalimat perintah membutuhkan Tag “will you”

Contoh:

Keep silent, will you?

Please, don`t swim here, will you?

Speak slowly, will you?

 

KALIMAT PERNYATAAN  “ I am…. “Question Tag nya “ aren`t I?”

Contoh:

I am your mom, aren`t I?

 

Let`s atau let us  , Tagnya “shall we?”
